Over the past weeks, many customers who call us have been surprised when we answer the phone. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard some form of the phrase, “I didn’t expect you to answer the phone,” or, “You’re the only company I’ve called that isn’t closed.” As a company that helps facilitate the health and safety of our customers, our technicians have been deemed essential critical infrastructure workers by the Department of Homeland Security and both Indiana and Michigan have identified our business as essential during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Believe it or not, warm weather is going to come along sooner or later. Normally we would have performed several hundred seasonal system checks by now, but we’ve been delaying making those phone calls out of an abundance of caution. I am aware, however, that once the warm weather does come along, we will be dealing with many times the number of “no cooling” calls we normally would if we aren’t able to deal with issues before they become a problem. To that end, I wanted to share with you the precautions we are taking to keep you and your family safe when we come into your home or business:
- Members of our office staff are working remotely to practice social distancing from their co-workers. They are also taking all reasonable precautions to limit their exposure when not working.
- We are screening our customers by asking if anyone in the home or building has experienced a fever, shortness of breath or any flu-like symptoms in the past 14 days and deferring service as needed.
- Our technicians are wearing masks and disposable gloves to limit the chances of inadvertently spreading contagions between customer sites. They are also washing and sanitizing their hands between each appointment.
- Our technicians are using an EPA-registered disinfectant listed for use against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19 coronavirus) each day to disinfect the surfaces that they touch on a regular basis between customer sites – truck door handles, steering wheels, tablet computers & phones as well as tools.
With these procedures and controls in place, we are in a great position to continue to help you with all of your plumbing, heating and cooling needs. But, we also want you to stay safe and stay comfortable. If you are comfortable having us in your home, we are comfortable that we are doing everything possible to keep you safe while we are there. If you feel safer delaying non-urgent service such as routine maintenance, we want to you do that too!
The COVID-19 virus continues to disrupt our lives — but Mother Nature isn’t going to take a break from her normal routines. Summer IS coming. If you are healthy and comfortable with us coming into your home, please call us to schedule your seasonal system check. Otherwise, we’ll do our best to reach out to you once the “stay-at-home” order has been lifte.
Stay Safe. Stay Comfortable.
